In schooling, you would never ask a student to “sit down and try anyway” when they’ve honestly misplaced their textbook, iPad or flashdrive. In education, as in any relationship, there is no such thing as “one solution to all challenges”. In education, as in local and global development, disasters and underdevelopment have different underlying causes and require different responses. This workshop will collaboratively tease apart the differences among disaster response, rehabilitation and community development. If we confuse the three, there may be may be disastrous consequences for the short-term mission-tripper and the partnering community. We’ll find ways to move beyond the disasters and the confusion.
